My design of a structure for a collection of unrelated objects is an abstract coat rack designed to hold neckties. I took a plank of wood and used a technique I learned in the Fall for a previous piece I created; however, with this piece, I wanted to challenge myself to see how much further I could truly bend and manipulate the wood. I wanted my design to comment on the absurdity of masculinity with this quite bizarre and unique structure which doesn’t actually look as if it could hold anything but in fact, it is made to hold neckties which is seemingly quite odd. I found fun in taking the design of a traditional stand-alone coat rack you may see at the entrance to one’s home and then amplifying and distorting it.
