How gender dysphoria feels
Disie is a character I created that captures my gender dysphoria in this cute gumball machine. I use bright, neon colors as the outer shell of disie to emulate how I often present myself, but there’s an underlying roughness to these colors. Contrastingly, the inside are these darker colors for the octopus that lives inside of disie. That represents this slimy, sticky inside interior. Sadly for disie, disie doesn’t always keep the octopus from showing on the outside. disie struggles with spitting up octopus babies sometimes, and the octopus’s ink ruined disie’s eyes. They now are this deep, sharp black. For disie’s hat, I really wanted to create a texture that emulated a soft, furry, and fuzzy hat that you just want to your rub your hand on and adorn on your head. I then added ribbons that I had used in my hair to disie’s hat to have a 3D element, to bring disie into the real world.
