Partita Ostinato
Short film of Performance Art
2025
Inspired by my 2nd year “Partita” solo at UNCSA and Bruce Nauman’s “Walking in an Exaggerated Manner,” I wanted to play with time and repetition as well as participate in a somatic practice. Both of these works played a lot with time. Our “Partita” solos were year-long choreographic practices that took only 12 steps and a motif and turned them into 5-minute-long solos using the same movements but manipulating them in different ways. Bruce Nauman works with time in the sense that you get lost in it by repeating such a simple movement for so long in his case walking around a box in an “exaggerated manner.” I wanted to forget about time and external factors, enter a meditative state, and see how long I could last in the given conditions thus inverting time. I chose sunrise to be the time of day that I performed the work because it has been used to identify time since “the dawn of time”. I chose to wear a vintage dress from the 50s to reminisce on a time period.
